The Center for Innovation and Translation of Point of Care Technologies for Equitable Cancer Care (CITEC) announced its inaugural group of awardees for cancer care research. Among the four winners is BME Assistant Professor Dongkyun Kang, who works at the intersection of engineering and health.

Kang was recognized for his work with deep learning algorithms that analyze images from sLSM (super-resolution light-sheet mapping) imaging techniques. According to Scienmag, this work has the potential to greatly increase lesion detection during biopsies. Kang is also an assistant professor at the BIO5 Institute

CITEC is led by Rice University in conjunction with the Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
