National Academy of Inventors names Jennifer Barton in senior member class

The National Academy of Inventors included BME professor Jennifer Barton in its 2025 class of senior members. Barton works at the crossroads of medicine and technology, holding eight patents and serving as a professor at the BIO5 Institute.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized as an NAI senior member and to join such an esteemed group of academic innovators,” said Barton. “This distinction reflects not only my work but also the incredible support and collaborative environment fostered by the University of Arizona.”
On the national stage, Barton served as the president of the International Optics and Photonics Society and on the National Advisory Council for the National Institutes of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
In addition to conducting research and developing technologies, Barton has mentored over 100 graduate, undergraduate and high school students.
