2018 graduate Megan Tran received the Nugent Award from the University of Arizona for her active and enthusiastic engagement in community and University service. During her time at UA, Tran maintained a 4.0 GPA, founded the University’s Medical Device Club, and was involved with Tau Beta Pi and several campus research labs.

She also found time to volunteer as a crisis counselor for the Crisis Text Line, and with Tu Nitido, a local nonprofit that offers support to children dealing with grief and bereavement. Tran was accepted to multiple medical schools but accepted a two-year deferral from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona, during which she will be teaching secondary biology at an underserved high school in San Jose, CA through Teach for America.

“I get a lot of fulfillment out of working with people,” Tran said. “I want to make a career out of that service-oriented activity.”
