Slepian wins Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award

Dr. Marvin Slepian, Regents Professor of medicine and biomedical engineering, directs the Center for Accelerated Biomedical Innovation and is a member of the BIO5 Institute.
BME Regents Professor Marvin Slepian was one of multiple University of Arizona staff celebrated at the annual Distinguished Faculty Awards. The event honored 27 faculty members for their service to students, colleagues, communities and the university's mission and land-grant values.
Slepian, who also serves as director of the Arizona Center for Accelerated Biomedical Innovation, won the University Distinguished Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award.
“I’m deeply honored to receive this award. It’s recognition and validation of all the work that we’re doing, that we’ve been doing, frankly, over my entire career, and certainly my whole career at the University of Arizona,” Slepian said. “The importance of this sort of innovation, translation and entrepreneurship goes beyond just the university to the city, state and the nation.”
Slepian’s research career has led to the development of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases. His work has focused on novel biomaterials for tissue engineering, drug delivery and medical device development.
"Teaching, research, service, outreach, and mentorship form the foundation of the faculty work we honor," said Ronald Marx, interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. "In recognizing these efforts, we celebrate not only individual accomplishments but also a collective commitment to academic excellence and student success."
