Slepian Discusses Possibility of AI Replacing Human Jobs
A new paper co-authored by BME clinical professor Marvin Slepian examines how willing the public is to allowing artificial intelligence into their lives. The paper found that almost half of US patients are open to using an AI clinic for diagnosis and treatment. The paper reports the results of a survey that found 52% of Americans would choose a human doctor over a robot. Slepian recently spoke with KVOA about the paper's findings and concerns over AI taking human jobs.
"Humans invented A.I. and therefore we have to be the masters of this and it's not going to instantly replace everything that we do," Slepian said. "As long as we maintain that attitude, I think moving forward for everybody particularly students who are in school thinking about new jobs that type of attitude will allow A.I. to be a supplement."
The paper "Diverse patients’ attitudes towards Artificial Intelligence (AI) in diagnosis" was published in the medical journal PLOS Digital Health.
