Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Awards Avery Therapeutics
BizTucson recently highlighted the winners of the 2020 Governor’s Governor's Celebration of Innovation Awards, which included Avery Therapeutics, Inc., a medical technology company co-lead by 2013 BME PhD graduate and research assistant professor Jen Koevary.
The 17th annual celebration awarded local technology and innovation companies that are helping solve global challenges. The Avery Therapeutics team won the Judge's Award at the celebration for their work with tissue-engineered therapeutics to treat diseases and injuries to human muscle.
Koevary serves as the chief operating and financial officer at Avery, and previously worked to commercialize research out of the University of Arizona. One such commercialization is MyCardia, a biologically active cardiac graft that can be surgically affixed to a heart to assist function for patients with conditions such as chronic heart failure, licensed by Avery.
“Congratulations to all the individuals and companies who contribute so much to growing our technology ecosystem,” said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “Arizona’s forward-thinking legislature, along with our leading educators, STEM talent and technology community make our state a national force for innovation. We’re thrilled to continue our annual tradition of honoring the GCOI winners during this outstanding virtual event.”
