BME junior Alexis Henderson recently appeared on Tucson radio station KXCI's Thesis Thursday program to discuss her biomechanics research.

Her main focus is applying biomechanics knowledge to athletes, with a goal to enter an MD/PhD program to become an orthopedic surgeon with a sports medicine emphasis.

"Outside of my classes and my research lab, I am a volunteer at the ASTEC Simulation Lab and then I work as an athletic training tech with the UA football team. So ultimately, I help out both in the training room assisting athletic trainers, and then at practices and games with the overall goal of preventing injuries in our college athletes," Henderson said. "In addition to what we're doing with motion capture, another aspect of our study is trying to determine if you can use consumer wearable devices, or we can design a cheaper device, for high school and college athletes who are unable to go into clinics."
