Biomedical engineering major Fermin Prieto was recently one of seven members of the Class of 2017 highlighted by the University of Arizona for his academic and personal accomplishments.
Arriving in the United States as a teen, he overcame a language barrier to excel in math and science. As a UA student, Prieto served as president of SHPE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
After graduation, he aims to continue serving the Hispanic community -- particularly those in rural areas -- as a physician. He has been accepted into five medical schools.
