BME Projects Aimed at Soothing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Excel at Design Day
Biomedical engineering students won big at this year's Design Day, earning prizes upwards of $2,000 for their wrist devices.
The 2024 Craig M. Berge Design Day featured innovative work from BME students that aimed to alleviate pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, resulting in award-winning projects that are expected to be progressed by next year's capstone teams.
Team 24020 received the RBC Sargent Aerospace & Defense Voltaire Design Award for their project, Wearable Mechanical Device for the Wrist. The $2,500 award recognizes the team's efforts in designing a wearable device that alleviates pressure caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.
The $1,250 W.L. Gore and Associates Award for Lifelong Innovation was awarded to Team 24021 for their project, PneumaBrace, which also featured a wearable wrist device aimed at relieving symptoms of carpal tunnel. The device is expected to move forward with another capstone team next year.
