Abstract: This talk explores the career progression from biomedical scientist to regulatory affairs professional, highlighting how technical training in engineering and life sciences can translate into impactful roles guiding medical innovations to market. The presentation will illustrate how regulatory professionals bridge research, clinical development and commercialization to ensure that safe and effective technologies reach patients.

Bio: Raji V. Marati is director of precision medicine and digital health in Global Regulatory Affairs at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, where she leads regulatory strategy for diagnostics products across multiple therapeutic areas. A University of Arizona PhD alum, Raji has built her career at the intersection of biomedical innovation and patient access, with more than 12 years of experience across both pharmaceutical and medical device industries. She has guided cross-functional teams through non-clinical and clinical validation and has led teams through product approvals in the U.S., EU, Japan and China. She loves to mentor students and share what a career in regulatory affairs looks like, how engineers can thrive in this space and how regulatory strategy helps translate great science into real-world impact. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and two energetic boys, ages 9 and 7. Outside of work, she enjoys singing, dancing, cooking and playing with her high-energy boys.
