Kuo Discusses Eastern And Western Medicine On KJZZ

Phillip Kuo, professor of BME and medical imaging, recently appeared on KJZZ 91.5 to discuss his work combining Eastern and Western medicine with tai chi master ShaoJun Lyu. The two recently formed the nonprofit International Society of Chinese Health Practices, which just held its first symposium in Beijing.
"It was more than running a science project on the bench lab like I had been doing for years. It became a personal thing because I had experienced it. I felt the beneficial effects of it," Kuo said of tai chi on KJZZ. "We officially formed this society that we had been dreaming about for 20 years, for these goals of promoting what we refer to as Chinese health practices."
Kuo said the goal of the International Society of Chinese Health Practices is to research and better understand Chinese developments like tai chi through a Western, academic lens.
"Chinese medicine is so interconnected, it's not seen as one isolated thing, it's a whole lifestyle," Kuo said. "It's really incredible how the science and philosophy blend together."
